As noted in the MacBone product overview, the original MacBone unit was designed in 1993 to economically and efficiently cool, heat and pressurize the operator's cab on a railroad maintenance machine. In this application the MacBone product has met all expectations and continues to perform very well. Over the last five years, the MacBone unit has been further utilized in other applications with many more applications under consideration. Whenever a machine, vehicle or boat is operated by personnel inside a closed space, and there is no 120 or 240 volt AC power available to run an electric air conditioner, the all hydraulic MacBone unit is made for the job. Seven U.S. railroads use MacBone units to cool, heat and pressurize their maintenance machine cabs. Six manufacturers of these rail maintenance machines install the MacBone unit as original equipment. Several MacBone units are in service on inland push boats where the pilot house stands high above the barges being pushed. Four years ago at Virginia International Terminal's Portsmouth facility, MacBone units went in service cooling and heating the operator's cab on straddle carriers, which are used to transport containers from ships to rail cars or trucks. Reynold's Metals Company, after evaluating the performance of the MacBone unit at their reduction plant in Massena, NY, has specified the MacBone product for additional enclosed cab fork lift trucks. These machines have never been successfully air conditioned before, so we are pleased with our success in this application. Supplied without the electric compressor clutch, the MacBone unit is non-electric so is of interest in hazardous environments. As MacBone applications expand, more product models are being developed.
